Dublin North - electronic vote statistics
The electronic results from the Dublin North constituency have been made
available on the internet. Assuming that the results are correct (no-one
can guarantee this) there are many interesting statistics to be found:-
There were over 500 million possible ways of voting in the 12-candidate
election but the 43942 voters voted in 19299 different ways. 16085 people
voted in a unique way. 3662 people voted for all 12 candidates, and all
but 12 of these votes were unique. A further 597 people voted for 11
candidates - all these votes were unique.

While these statistics are very interesting, electronic voting is very
dangerous. Voters cannot be certain that the voting machines have
recorded their votes correctly. The state of California has just
introduced a requirement for a printed ballot paper to be
produced for the voter. Shouldn't we do the same here?
